[ Canon Point ] : While Johnny is waiting for Charley at the Opera (Chapter 16 of Volume 4)
[ History ] :
- Johnny was born a human during the time of kingdoms and knights. Johnny, himself, was a knight, a very skilled one; however, he was seriously wounded in battle with no way to tend his wounds. However, a demon, by the name of Belial, who was highly infatuated with Johnny offered to heal him, allow him to live, and give him power, if he made an oath to the demon. Johnny accepted and was changed into a powerful vampire, the demon, wanting to remain with Johnny forever, made a clone of himself, who went by “Barry”, and infused it with his power and essence.
Johnny’s relationship with Barry lasted about a century and every moment of it was abusive and torturous. Barry, whose lust and infatuation turned into obsession, found pleasure in chasing, dismembering, and raping Johnny, sometimes even physically eating his flesh for his ‘meal’. Barry often called Johnny ‘Addie’ as a nickname from ‘Adam’ in parallel to the biblical ‘Adam and Eve’. The demon even went so far as to take one of Johnny’s ribs and make a female vampire out of it, Rayfell, who looks exactly like Johnny, only a woman, to represent ‘Eve’.
Somehow, Johnny escaped from Barry, and lost him, allowing him peace for the first time since he became a vampire. Johnny took up drinking only the blood of the dead or from blood transfusion packs. Consequently, when a war started, it was the perfect time for him to get the blood he needed from the dead bodies. After one of the battles, a small boy found Johnny drinking from the corpses, but, showed no fear of him. Even when Johnny threatened to eat him and cook him in a soup, the boy’s only response was his stomach growling. This amused Johnny and he gave the kid bread and took him to his ‘home’.
The boy, who Johnny named ‘Chris’ easily worked his way past Johnny’s then cold exterior, and into his heart, bringing out a caring loving side that hadn’t been exposed in years. One night, Chris told him he loved ‘Master’, the name he gave to Johnny, and said he wanted to stay with the vampire forever. The next day, Johnny delivered him at a church that could take care of Chris properly, and vanished. As much as he loved the child, he knew that sleeping during the day, going out at night, living underground, and eating bare scraps of food that Johnny could find, was not a healthy life for a human boy.
Years later, when the boy had become a man, Johnny reappeared as a priest and re-entered Chris’ life, though, he now went by Charley. It is assumed that the two traveled together for a little while, hunting vampires, before Chris was mortally wounded during a fight. Johnny was there with him and, Charley told him he wanted to remain by Johnny’s side. Not wanting the boy he loved to die, Johnny turned him by giving him his blood and revealing to Charley his true nature as a vampire.
At first, Charley was angry about what he had become and even tried, multiple times, to kill Johnny, but he was never able to go through with it. Eventually he came to terms with what he was, however, he began converting parts of his body into machinery, making himself into a Cyborg so that he could continue to do ‘God’s work’. Johnny and Charley began living together in Los Angeles and often took up jobs for the Vatican that involved slaying vampires.
While doing these missions and spending time with Charley, Johnny largely ignored Barry, hoping to avoid the demon as long as possible. However, Barry eventually caught up to Johnny, when he killed a vampire Johnny had let drink from him out of jealousy. Knowing Barry was volatile and dangerous, Johnny began to distance himself from everyone around him, especially Charley, and, even left the place they had been living together.
He moved back into one of their apartments, however, Barry found him and deceived him into letting the demon in by pretending to be Charley. Once he had Johnny alone, Barry wasted no time in returning to his old treatment, torturing, raping, and devouring a good portion of Johnny’s body. After he was done, he left Johnny in the apartment for Charley to find later, though, he left a creature there to spy on the two.
Johnny, knowing the spy was there, pushed Charley away even more (including physically), even as the other man tried to help him heal emotionally. This distancing didn’t stop him from coming to help Charley when the other man really needed it, including all the way in Italy, but, still he offered no answers to Charley’s questions about what was happening. In an attempt to distract Barry from hunting Charley in his jealousy, he offered that they should play a sick version of ‘cat and mouse’ where Johnny would run until Barry could catch and rip him apart again. Although, he had help from Rayfell in one instance, Johnny was left to his own devices to avoid Barry, while still trying to keep an eye on Charley.
Having gained a small lead on Barry, Johnny invited Charley to the opera so he could feed from Johnny, though, Barry sat across the building from where Johnny was waiting. - Johnny’s personality is a giant mixture of badass, tsun, and derp. He’s live a long and hard life, so, he has a serious side that tends to come out whenever he’s on a job or dealing with something especially painful, although, he still wears a sad smile when he shows it. Often times, his solution to painful things or dealing with issues, is to hide away from those he cares about and smile so they don’t worry, though, this rarely works on Charley.
However, as painful as his past has been, Johnny still manages to keep his sense of humor, often times teasing Charley with sexual innuendos and making jokes about serious things to lighten the mood. He has a very child-like attitude when presented new and, especially, cute things, fawning over them and getting excited about everything.
Although he’s supposed to be a blood-thirsty killer, according to the few files on him, Johnny is actually a man with a big heart who regrets losing his humanity and tries to make up for it in any way he can. This regret is largely what inspires him to help Charley in his missions, other than wanting to protect Charley. This is also why he never drinks living human blood and, instead, drinks blood packs.
His kindness shows in other ways too. As Charley notes during one of their conversations and as can be seen in one of the flashbacks, Johnny has always been particularly kind to children and those he finds child-like. He also has a soft spot for woman in danger, most likely a lingering feeling from being a knight of his realm, though, he is physically disgusted at the thought of sleeping with women; although it disgust him, he never says anything, and, even continues to be polite (politeness that is easily confused for flirting) when women make advances on him.
While he’d much rather spend time having fun or teasing Charley, when the time moment calls for it, Johnny will not hesitate to attack or kill anyone who presents a danger to those around him. It could be said he ‘slips into defender mode’ when others are in trouble, and has no problem being cold and aloof in these instances. If someone threatens a person Johnny cares about, he’ll kill them as soon as look at them. - Blood- Johnny is a vampire, and, although it would be easy for him to gain blood like any normal vampire, he refuses to drink from humans, so, he needs blood packs instead. Since this is ‘non-living blood’ it returns most, but not all of his full strength. While he doesn’t need to eat constantly, he can really only go 2-3 weeks without blood before the urge to drink becomes too much to handle.
Entering- Since Johnny is a vampire, he can’t enter another person’s home without first being invited. This isn’t the case with public buildings or abandoned places, though.
His blood- When Johnny spills some of his blood, he can create two demon girls who have weapons for hands, named ‘Yuria’ and ‘Makiria’, to protect him.
Three ways to die permanently- Johnny can only be killed if he is stabbed through the heart (Material of the weapon doesn’t matter), if he gets his head cut off, or, if he is hurt by holy objects (i.e. reciting from the bible would kill him.)
Garlic- While it doesn’t kill him, it does repulse him and could make him sick if exposed, sort of like a really bad allergy.
Sun exposure- If Johnny is exposed to the sun’s rays directly, he will turn to dust (as proper vampires are known to do) however, in the dust there will be a small and weakened bat, if this bat is taken to Johnny’s coffin and closed in there, after 7 days and nights, Johnny will be re-born, memories and everything intact and back to normal. - Although Johnny is a vampire, he refuses to drink from people, choosing, instead, to drink ‘blood supplements’. Also, Johnny’s cat, Minea, will be coming with him.
